Rough - 2004 Lexus ES 330
By Chuck Cadwell - September 30 - 10:00 amThe cars ride and comfort is great! The transmission is some what to be desired. Rough shifting and hesitation on exceleration. Repair shops just says that the way it is. There is nothing they can do.

Watch Out: Poor Transmission - 2004 Lexus ES 330
By DSS - November 29 - 10:00 amThe 5speed automatic suffers from hestitation and lack of smoothness and feel when shifting from 1st to 2nd, and 2-3rd. The hesitation and then surge of power is not only unpleasant, but can be unsafe. Lexus has been aware of this problem on ES300 and ES330 for 3years and has no fix. Warning: check discussion groups online for information before buying!

I Might Buy It Again - 2004 Lexus ES 330
By MCG - August 29 - 10:00 amLike others, I have noticed transmission issues. Stopping at a stop sign and immediately starting again confuse the tranny. I have not had problems elsewhere. Freeway driving, merging, acceleration to get out of a jam...all excellent. No pull to the left issues w/mine. Drive the one youre going to buy. The interior is beautiful, comfy and convenient. The CD changer in the center console limits storage capacity. For the HP, the car is not responsive from 0, but, handles driving at speed nicely. I also like the Comfort vs. Sport suspension adjustment - it provides a noticeable difference in ride and handling. Beautiful car-should perform better.

Annoyances - 2004 Lexus ES 330
By fussy - July 22 - 1:26 pmThere are a few annoying features about this vehicle. Little things like the drivers side floor mat will not stay in place - the hook and grommet system just doesnt work. No. 2 is the turn signal that wont cancel, particularly when coming off a ramp in a sweeping curve, after going straight ahead the right signal doesnt cancel. Lexus service says they work fine! Last, and probably most important, the glare off the dash when driving into the sun makes it very difficult, if not impossible, to see anyone or thing at the roadside - polarized sunglasses help a bit. Other than theses issues, its a great car.

Great car except for tranny - 2004 Lexus ES 330
By skeown - June 4 - 10:00 amcar has great features, and quality feel on the interior.GreatSedan, and the 4th ES I have owned. Very, very disappointed in the hesitation/hold back from first to second gear, and really bad in bumper to bumper traffic.Fly by wire transmission cant learn between how it should control in staight road which is great, but in bumper2bumper its relearning new shifting patterns and =s jolting. The internet is full of writeups on this problem, and tires pulling left. The 2003 chip fix helped some, but hesitation can be dangerous.

First Time Lexus Owner - 2004 Lexus ES 330
By Pepper - April 30 - 5:00 amPurchased a pre-owned 330 with 5000 miles. Very good overall vehicle. Thoroughly enjoy long drives and the sense of watching your travels on a large plasma screen when you nestle in the front seat and enjoy the window and roof views.

skewed performance - 2004 Lexus ES 330
By stevenR - July 10 - 10:00 amVery powerful car with great amenities. But the car has a pull to to the left that the mechanics cant seem to get rid off. It is particularly noticable at highway speeds. Otherwise the car is comfortable and gets good gas mileage.

Excellent And Bland - 2004 Lexus ES 330
By David P - March 29 - 10:00 amI agree the ES does not offer GT sedan performance. Kick in another $30K, if thats what you want and get the 430. I do not feel that the power or the transmission cause any safety problems. You can lock in a lower gear ratio, if the situation calls for it and the engine will give you what you need. I dont care about Porche, G35 Coupe, GT Sedan performance any more. Thats why I bought the ES. If you dont care to have high performance handling and throttle/transmission response and if you do want a quiet comfortable ride with very nice interior appointments, excellent sound system and plenty of luxury features, this car is a great buy.

I need your feedback! - 2004 Lexus ES 330
By niceandfunny9 - February 20 - 2:00 amPurchased new..right off the truck..foolish move..didnt test drive it..find that transmission does not shift properly. Hesitates/holds back from first through second gear. The rest of the package is awesome. Only 1,000 miles on it and Lexus says the car is fine??????? Would love to hear back from other owners about transmission shifting concerns
